Transitions 14-19
Welcome to our Transition Page
Our aim is to help young people make a successful transition from school to their next specific destination. This will prepare all pupils for adult life and to provide the support necessary for them to become as independent as they can be.
Our motto at Crownbridge is ‘Bridges to Success’ and we ensure our young people experience a wide range of learning opportunities that aim to develop confidence, self-esteem and the necessary skills for the next steps in their life and learning.
Our curriculum incorporates the four purposes, the six areas of learning and experience, set out in the Curriculum for Wales, and is person-centred to challenge pupils to achieve their full potential. We include pupil voice, when planning, to ensure we deliver engaging and appropriate learning experiences.
All of our tertiary pupils have an individualised curriculum and are able to choose formal and informal pathway courses, that are accredited, and based on what they enjoy. These courses allow pupils to have a taste of potential careers and future education options, alongside developing cross-curricular skills. Work experience placements match as closely as possible to a pupil’s interest and skills and are arranged with reference to the pupil’s pathway to the next steps.
We collaborate with Careers Wales, post 19 education providers and local companies, so that our pupils and families are able to make informed choices about their future. Opportunities to gain essential life-skills through careers and work-related experiences are offered both in-house and in the wider community, supported by our enabling adults. This includes our Café Goron, which is run by our pupils and opens to the public every Friday morning.
A transition plan will be written to support all stakeholders. The plan will include information about what is required to support pupil needs and who is responsible for actions that are agreed. It will also include a timeline of what will be happening and what is important to the pupil.
There are some helpful links to colleges and other resources that can help you find the right path for you. If you have any questions or need some advice, please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher or Louise McCarthy, Assistant Headteacher.
